Implantable ComponentsNeurostimulator: A pacemaker-like device containing a battery and microelectronic circuitry. It is implanted subcutaneously near the clavicle, and generates electrical signals that are delivered by the extension and lead to the targeted structures deep within the brain. With dimensions – 6 cm wide, 5.5 cm tall and 1 cm thick and weighs about 42 grams. DBS™ Lead: Each lead consists of four thin, insulated, coiled wires and has four 1.5 mm electrodes at the end. Extension: An insulated wire that is passed subcutaneously along the head, neck, and shoulder to connect the lead to the implanted neurostimulator.
Patient-Operated ComponentsAccess Review® Therapy Controller: The patient places this compact, handheld controller over the neurostimulator and presses buttons to turn the neurostimulator on and off, to view the system's on/off status, and to check the system's battery status. Control Magnet: The patient places the control magnet over the neurostimulator to turn the stimulator on and off.
Physician System ComponentsNeurological Test Stimulator: The clinician uses the Test Stimulator intraoperatively after the leads are placed to test patient response to Activa Therapy before the entire system is implanted. Physician Programmer: The clinician uses the Physician Programmer to adjust the stimulation parameters noninvasively via telemetry.
