| Vendor | | Given Imaging | | Item | | M2A Capsule Endoscopy | | Features | | M2A® Capsule Endoscopy is a naturally ingested device for use in the gastrointestinal tract. The procedure is ambulatory, allowing patients to continue daily activities throughout the endoscopic examination. M2A® Capsule Endoscopy closes the diagnostic gap by enabling physicians to directly view the entire small intestine. | | Approval | | FDA, FCC, UL 2601 (US); CSA 22.2, Health Canada (Class II Medical Device License) (Canadian); IEC 60601-1, CE Mark (European); TGA (Aust-L) (Australian) | | Magnification | | 1:8 (approx.) | | Field of View | | 140 degrees | | Capsule Size | | 26 mm (L) x 11 mm (D) | | Operating Time | | 6-8 hour examination | | Procedure | | Images and data are acquired as the M2A® Capsule passes through the digestive system. | The Given system, developed by Given Imaging of Israel, is a miniaturized endoscopy unit about the size of a grape. Weighing in at only four grams, it contains a miniature color video camera, 4 LED lights, battery and radio transmitter coated by a smooth biocompatible surface that is resistant to digestive enzymes. Internal gastric images are transmitted to a walkman-sized receiver worn on a harness by the patient. The capsule-sized unit provides real-time imaging as peristalsis propels it through the stomach and bowel, providing high-resolution color images. | |
