Features
  • Pump/Drive Unit: The pump/drive unit includes the pumping chamber and electromechanical driver, encased within a biocompatible shell.
  • Controller: The microprocessor-based Controller regulates the flow of power to the implanted pump/drive unit, controlling the pumping action of the device. It monitors system function, alarming for out-of-range operation or fault conditions.
  • Primary Power Pack: The Primary Power Pack is the principal source of power for the Novacor® LVAS. Its rechargeable nickel-cadmium battery lasts approximately four hours. A monitor circuit displays charge capacity, and alarms for low charge, accidental disconnect or fault condition.
  • Reserve Power Pack: The rechargeable Reserve Power Pack, with a nominal one-hour capacity, serves as a backup power source. It maintains pump function while the primary power source is being exchanged. A monitor circuit displays charge capacity, and alarms for low charge, accidental disconnect or fault condition.
  • Power-Pack Charger: The Power-Pack Charger can charge up to three Novacor® LVAS power packs at a time, ensuring that recipients always have charged power packs available.
  • LVAS Monitor: The LVAS Monitor, designed for in-hospital use during device implantation and the early postoperative period, allows selection and adjustment of control modes and setting of alarm limits. It monitors pump performance and system function, alarming for out-of-limit operation or fault conditions.
  • Personal Monitor: The Personal Monitor, designed for at-home use, supplies power to the Novacor® LVAS when the recipient is sleeping. The Personal Monitor also monitors device function, providing a loud alarm and instructions in case of a detected fault. A Standby Power Source supplies power to the Personal Monitor in case of an AC power outage.
