| The KyphX Xpander® Inflatable Bone Tamp is an orthopedic balloon designed to inflate in cancellous bone while resisting puncture. Like an angioplasty balloon, it can be viewed under X-ray image guidance because it is inflated with radiopaque contrast medium. The addition of contrast medium increases the balloon volume. The force of balloon growth compacts cancellous bone and pushes the cortical bone apart. If the bone being treated is partially healed or has an uninjured area, this will resist balloon expansion.
