The Mackool Cataract Support System (CSS) provides absolutely reliable support to the lens capsule and enclosed nucleus, thereby permitting routine phacoemulsification regardless of zonular status. Insertion is extremely easy (similar to disposable iris retractors), and removal is accomplished in seconds. Unlike and endocapsular ring, which can be inserted with the CSS in place after the conclusion of a phacoemulsification, the CSS will not entrap the lens cortex.
