During gas endoscopy, the sheath can be inserted into the proximal end of a trocar sleeve or inserted directly into the incision site. During gasless endoscopy, the containment sheath may be removed prior to introducing the balloon into the incision. Once inserted into the working cavity, the balloon is inflated by means of a syringe. After the retractor is fully inflated, it is used to provide atraumatic retraction of organs and tissues. During open surgery, the balloon may be inflated prior to insertion.
