A growing percentage of Staphylococcus aureus (mainly methicillin-resistant strains) possess a capsule which can mask cell wall antigens (clumping factor and protein A) typically detected by agglutination tests. The Bio-Rad Pastorex® Staph Plus Kit however, simultaneously detects both cell wall antigens and capsular antigens in culture media isolates.
Pastorex® Staph Plus is a rapid agglutination test for the simultaneous detection of the fibrinogen affinity (clumping factor), protein A and capsular polysaccharides of Staphylococcus aureus. The test is based on a latex particle agglutination reaction that is read visually by the presence of colored particles. Bio-Rad offers a complete kit including control, disposable cards and sticks.
