| For many patients with a diseased heart, the only therapy solution open to them is to be given a heart transplant. However, donor organs are not always readily available. For this reason, too many people die while they are on the waiting list for a donor organ.
This is where ventricular assist devices (VAD) can save the life of a patient. On the one hand, these systems can bridge the waiting period before a heart transplant is possible, on the other, they can ease a diseased heart's workload, even to the point of complete recovery. | |
