Product Description
Autoantibodies against the antigens SS-A and SS-B are found in most patients suffering from primary Sjögren's syndrome. Inflammatory processes of the salivary and lachrymal glands are characteristic for this disorder. Also SLE patients with sicca syndrome exhibit antibodies against SS-A and SS-B. More importantly, anti-SS-A antibodies are present in > 80% of mothers of infants with congenital heart block. The risk of an anti-SS-A positive mother giving birth to an infant suffering from neonatal lupus syndrome is about 5 - 10%. An isolated anti-SS-B finding is very rare. SS-B antibodies mostly appear together with SS-A antibodies in a patient serum.
