The nation's most technologically- advanced and comprehensive center for orthopaedic care -- the $60 million, 100,000-square-foot TRIA Orthopaedic Center -- celebrated its Grand Opening June 16 in Bloomington, Minn.
Created through the partnership of healthcare provider (Park Nicollet Health Services), an academic center (University of Minnesota Physicians), and a private practice (The Orthopaedic Center), TRIA's physicians serve the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, Lynx, Wild, and University of Minnesota athletics -- along with Little League tykes, senior golfers and weekend warriors.
"One-Stop Shop" Care Unique to TRIA
TRIA offers same-day surgery, orthopaedic clinics, direct digital X-ray and MRI, physical therapy, orthotics, prosthetics and prescription delivery from PrairieStone Pharmacy. TRIA opens with 135 employees and 23 physicians, who are expected to perform 7,000 surgeries and conduct 37,000 clinic visits during TRIA's first year. The visionaries behind TRIA are CEO Dr. David Fischer, physician for the Minnesota Vikings and Timberwolves; and Dr. Marc Swiontkowski, Professor and Chairman of the University of Minnesota Department of Orthopaedic Surgery,
TRIA combines orthopaedic education, surgical research and clinical services within one facility. Much of TRIA's profits are poured back into research and education.
Paperless, filmless and wireless, TRIA features surgical technology including voice-activated communication, ceiling-mounted suspension systems for operating room equipment, and high-speed connectivity so surgeons can view and consult on live surgeries from locations throughout the facility. Surgical suites and clinics feature the latest equipment from TRIA's strategic partners -- GE Healthcare, Stryker Corp. and Zimmer.
Unprecedented Patient/Client Service
Acknowledging consumer-driven healthcare trends, TRIA does not require a physician referral for patients. The Center offers an on-site concierge, modeled on service similar to a fine hotel.
Created by architects Perkins & Will, TRIA's interiors feature materials and lighting to maximize healing - and incorporate feng shui concepts such as a 22-foot-long fountain, maple paneling, limestone tiles, and huge windows for natural light. Especially remarkable is the lobby's two-story fireplace -- the only vertical fireplace of its type in the country. Autographed collectibles from Olympic competitors and nationally-known athletes from the collections of TRIA physicians are also displayed.
