Ambulatory Electrocardiography Monitoring Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the developed countries with more than 250,000 people dying per year (685/day!) outside of hospitals from lethal cardiac arrhythmias in the United States alone. The first primary-prevention trials, Multicenter Automatic Defibrillator Implantation Trial (MADIT II), and the Multicenter Unsustained Tachycardia Trial (MUSTT), demonstrated conclusively that patients with coronary heart disease and a reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (40%-35% or less) with inducible sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmias benefited from the prophylactic implantation of a defibrillator. more... |
